Documents

The assessment seeks evidence of legal compliance, traceability, document integrity, and the absence of negative socio-environmental impacts.
Detailed verification makes it possible to identify signs of illegality or risks related to the origin of the wood, the chain of custody, and the operators involved.

This thorough analysis strengthens Due Diligence and provides importers with the assurance that they are purchasing wood of legal origin, with low risk of links to environmental crimes, document fraud, or rights violations.

Risk

Assessment

Environmental Licensing

Checks whether all environmental licenses of the parties involved are valid and in compliance with legal requirements.

Compliance with Sustainable Forest Management Plan (PMFS)

Confirms whether there is evidence that the area is operating in accordance with the Sustainable Forest Management Plan.

Human Rights Violations or Armed Conflicts

Ensures there are no links to human rights violations, forced labor, or the financing of conflict.

Compliance with CTF/IBAMA

Verifies that registrations in the Federal Technical Registry (CTF) and associated compliance certificates are up to date.

Document Compliance

Verifies the authenticity and accuracy of origin documents, ensuring that forest origin documentation is correctly linked and that dates are consistent.

Evidence of Industrial Activity and Logistics

Verifies whether sawmills are operating as declared and if the proposed logistics route is feasible.

History of Environmental Violations

Assesses whether there are any notifications of environmental infractions in areas under sustainable forest management or among supply chain members.

Presence of Indigenous Peoples or Traditional Communities

Evaluates whether there is any overlap or proximity to Indigenous lands or vulnerable communities.

Rural Environmental Registry (CAR)

Examines whether the CAR is active, valid, and free from irregularities.

Violations in the Chain of Custody (CoC)

Checks whether companies in the supply chain have a history of infractions, with specific attention to their impact on the shipment being assessed.

Volume Conversion

Checks whether the declared output volume matches the raw material input, respecting industry-standard wood yield coefficients.

Number of Operators in the Supply Chain

Assesses whether the number of companies involved is appropriate for the type of product, helping to prevent wood laundering practices.

Link to Deforestation or Degradation

Investigates whether the product contributed to illegal deforestation or was harvested illegally after 12/31/2020, as defined by the EUDR.

Illegal Mining or Deforestation in the Area

Checks for illegal activities occurring within or near the forest management area.

Slave Labor or Labor-Related Debts

Investigates connections to slave-like labor conditions or outstanding labor court rulings.

Analysis of Embargoes and Environmental Debts

Thorough review of potential embargoes or debts with local or federal environmental authorities that could compromise the legality of the wood’s origin.

Species Verification

Confirms both the scientific and common names of the species, and checks whether any special authorizations are required.

Anatomical Photographic Record of the Wood

Ensures visual evidence of the species and quality of the inspected wood.

Risk

Mitigation

The Risk Mitigation Program is a strategic initiative aimed at ensuring that all wood products traded by the company are in full compliance with the European Union Deforestation-free Regulation (EUDR).

This program is essential to prevent the purchase and commercialization of wood originating from illegal sources or associated with deforestation. Whenever risks are identified that cannot be considered negligible, the company is required to implement appropriate mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce those risks to acceptable levels.

In other words, in addition to requesting further information and supporting documentation, external audits may be carried out when necessary, ensuring that the systems in place are operating in accordance with the established legal requirements.
